Welcome to the image archive of the Leicestershire and Rutland Moth Group

All images included in this archive are of moths trapped or found in Leicestershire and Rutland (VC55), and have mainly been taken by resident moth recorders. Most of these images have been taken using digital stills or video cameras, and have been re-sized and saved at a lower resolution than originally captured to improve download times and reduce file sizes. They remain, however, perfectly adequate for on-screen viewing.

The majority of the species featured have been trapped at light and may be considered to be generally common or regularly recorded in VC55. Where the species status is more notable, and especially where a specimen featured was the first for VC55, then this is indicated alongside the picture.

Whilst care has been taken to ensure that all species featured have been correctly identified, it is possible that a small number of images have been wrongly captioned or misidentified. Should any error become apparent, please contact
. It should be noted that identification of live specimens from photographic references alone is fraught with difficulties, not least being that the size of the specimen depicted cannot be accurately gauged, and there may be closely related or very similar species that must be considered.

PLEASE NOTE - all images featured remain the copyright of the photographer, and may not be reproduced, used as references for artwork, or exploited in any other way without the copyright owner's express permission.
